Gravel, Particle Size and Organic Matter:

Some soil material contains gravel and this is described by modifying the texture class depending on the proportion of gravel present in the sample. For example a silt loam sample with 10 % gravel would be described as - slightly gravelly silt loam.

The texture class can also be modified to include the amount of organic matter in the sample. For example slighty peaty clay loam.

A description of the size of the gravel or sand can also be included along with the texture class. For example coarse loamy sand or slightly coarse gravelly sand.
